STUDIO.Y

MEESTERPROEF (GRADUATION PIECE)

Innovation / Trend Research / Target Groups

The transition of Young Innovators into the changing job market is a growing problem in society. Many graduates are forced to take a job for the sole purpose of earning money, in which they are limited and cannot develop their talents properly. This thesis is meant to create a solution for the problems of these Young Innovators, on behalf of STUDIO.Y.

To solve the problem mentioned above, multiple analyses have been conducted. Based on the experiences of graduates of creative studies and members of the STUDIO.Y-team, it has been discovered that Young Innovators are seeking appreciation and are looking for opportunities to make a difference in the world, all by using their capacities and talents. They are held back by the fact that they need money to come by and pay off their student debts. The Young Professional needs to find a way to create a balance between both earning money and making use of their talents in order to be satisfied.

When analyzing the business and identity of STUDIO.Y, results showed that there is no clear strategy. There is a lot of confusion among employees and interns about what STUDIO.Y exactly is. This opens a lot of doors, because STUDIO.Y’s identity won’t be harmed when big changes are made.

The biggest outcome of the sector analysis has been that there is no real distinction between different sectors anymore. Work, living and leisure are more intertwined than ever before. This creates opportunities, which is mostly shown by the growing number of freelancers, working anyplace at any time. There are undeniable needs for flexibility and opportunities to decide what job you want to do, whenever you want to do it.

Young Innovators are one of the first to pick up trends. In some cases they are even the ones that start a trend. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to not only the near future, but also what is coming in the next couple of years. The results of the analysis show that society is still individualistic, but it doesn’t consist of Lone Rangers. All these individuals are forming tribes and communities to be able to support each other and stay who they are. They are individuals, together.

All these analyses are linked together in a valuefit, designed to come up with a solution that will not only match with the target group, but also with STUDIO.Y, the sector and trends. The solution that all these analyses point to is an alternative for the regular job market. Challenges, flexibility, appreciation and a balance between earning money and using talents are the key elements. Multiple concepts were developed, but based on a concept testing among Young Innovators, STUDIO.JOBS has come out to be the best pick.

STUDIO.JOBS is an online marketplace (app) for temporary projects and Young Innovators seeking challenges. There is a wide variety in choices of projects, which are easy to filter. Also, all the members have their own personal profile and achievements they have to unlock to go up in levels. Members and companies posting projects can both buy credits to be able to accept or post a project. Furthermore, the companies have to pay the Young Innovator a salary, for which STUDIO.Y sets a scale for each level.

This concept is a solution because the projects can be carried out alongside a part time job, as a fulltime job or as work experience while you are still a student. Talents can be used and the Young Innovator can finally be proud of what they do for a living.
